Volunteering

December 5th was International Volunteer Day! As a volunteer-based organization pfcawardourselves, we’re happy to celebrate along with those who won Canada’s Volunteer Awards, as announced on Monday by Employment and Social Development Canada.

Ottawa’s own Parkdale Food Centre won in the Social Innovator Category for Ontario (this category recognizes non-profits rather an individuals). Congratulations, folks!

Read more about it, including a list of all winners, here.

Conservation

Smart Prosperity spearheaded an open letter from Canadian CEO’s and leaders to PM Justin Trudeau urging increased investment in preserving Canada’s natural heritage and resources. Read the whole thing and voice your support here.

Volunteering (Again)

The University of Ottawa’s Michaelle Jean Centre for Global and Community Engagement (CMJEMC:MJCGCE) has students, sometimes teams of them, looking for volunteer placements for the Winter academic term. If you know of a non-profit or charity that could use a hand (30 hrs per student in the academic stream!), let them know.

Deadline to apply is December 15th, so check them out, create a community partner account on their online portal, and see if it’s a good fit for some work that needs to be done!
