In honour of International Women’s Day 2020, here are few women leading great work here in the Ottawa area.
Kristina is well known as a fundraising & financial management guru in the environmental nonprofit sector in Ottawa. She is the Executive Director of Sustainable Eastern Ontario and holds two degrees in philanthropy and non-profit management. She also serves in a volunteer role with major granting organizations such as the Ottawa Community Foundation and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Kristina lives in the Alta Vista area with her partner and four children, whom she recently spent nearly a year with on a sailboat! Kristina is also a past boar chair at PERC. Rebecca is the director of Community Engagement at the Ottawa Community Foundation, where she developed the Ottawa Insights online knowledge centre in 2015. She has been active in many different sustainability and community groups around Ottawa for several years, and members of the PERC community may remember her from Sustainable Living Ottawa East (SLOE) and the Ottawa Children’s Garden on Main St. Most recently, she has been instrumental in bringing the LC3 initiative to Ottawa and getting that organization set up and ready to go, with anticipated fund arrival this Spring!
Janice came to Ottawa from Halifax, where she was key in the development of a community-owned wind turbine project. She worked at Ecology Ottawa and is best known from her role as general manager at the Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op, during which she was featured as one of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce’s 40 Under 40 in 2017. Janice was also key in launching Co-Energy, OREC’s sister co-operative. She is currently taking a haitus from these roles to work for the City of Ottawa developing a detailed pathway and budget to reach the ambitious GHG reduction targets recently approved by City Council. Janice is an avid cyclist and runner, sought after speaker, and all round fantastic person.
Alexandra Keenan is the Chair of the Canadian Environmental Network and sits on the PERC Board of Directors. She is a “recovering lawyer” who practiced Indigenous Law and worked with remote community for many years, who currently teaches stand-up comedy and communications skills, as well as developing and running a leadership camp for girls and non-binary/female identifying youth, called Spice! Leadership. Alex is an avid hiker, animal lover, and knitter.
